This is beneficial as it centralizes the whole government, thus there would be fewer conflicts within the government. The whole country would also act as one unit instead of multiple units where is would be harder to take control of them. This allows any end goals or changes to be made and met more efficiently and expediently. This advantage of being a fascist country would help Japan in her economics downturn as the country would work as one to help improve the economy. One example would be the Wall street crash. As countries adopted protectionalism, the demand of silk falls and leads to lesser revenue for companies. The companies would not have enough money to pay for workers’ wages and unemployment occurs. With the adoption of fascism, the problem would be solved at a faster rate as each citizen does their part for the country’s interest and listens to the government. Therefore fascism is indeed beneficial for Japan when its interest is concerned as compared to having a democratic system whereby the decision making took a longer time, leading to a reduction in the level of efficiency. Thirdly, Fascism benefited Japan by reducing unemployment. While looking back at Germany’s Nazism, where Nazism is fascism in Germany, Hitler reduced unemployment by implementing new government projects which requires building. Similar to Japan, Japanese people were employed for expanding building programmes generating much needed jobs and helping Japan recover economically from the great depression. Also, one year of military service took young men off unemployment for one year, reducing the strain and allows them to contribute financially towards their families. Women were also given the opportunity to work adding much needed workforce to the economy and helping Japan recover economically from the great depression. Therefore, Fascism in Japan did help because it helped in the reducing of unemployment. Fourthly, free schooling were available for children where Japanese children were given 6 years of compulsory free schooling, allowing the Japanese nation to educate children and generate talent. This relieved the financial burden of Japanese families who might not have been able to send their kids to school. This law passed on as ery important as all of the children are now able to have some basic knowledge and skills to equip themselves with so that they could help out and contribute to the economy in the future. Fifthly, almost everything is standardized. It was much easier on deciding on what channel to watch, what magazines or paper to read. Also, the people were just required to listen to what the government says and wants and to blindly carry them out, contributing to the society. This sets a clear goal for the people and the system would be more orderly. It is beneficial as the small tiny things and tasks in the country could be accounted for and having to just follow blindly, without any opinions and objections, would be more convenient. Lastly, one distinct characteristic of Fascism is the government being imperialistic or being an expansionistic. In Japan’s case, they withhold a strong army, thus they would want to show the rest their power and strength. This is a positive impact as due to the economic problems they were facing and the aggressive foreign policy adopted by Japan. The aggressive foreign policy led to creation of weapons, armaments which led to an increasing lack of natural raw materials for production processes and this further fuelled the desire to expand territorially into China and the Asia Pacific in order to obtain land, resources and markets. This in turn also provides living space for the proud citizens, thus again, showing the nation’s power. Continuing, when the population of Japan grew from 30 million in 1870 to 70 million by 1937, the rapid increase in population created a problem for Japan as its farmers could not grow enough food for the people and the growing population needed more space. As Japan is a mountainous country, the military said that overseas expansion would provide land to build more homes and to grow more crops. Thus they looked into Manchuria as a solution as it could provide Japan with cheap manpower, raw materials like: coal, timber, iron, soya beans, grain and gold and it could serve as an overseas market for Japan’s goods. It shows that the government at least considered the people and tried out a solution. As examples above, these are just some of the pros of Fascism and those are what would be the norm of all fascist state. Be it to solve unemployment, to make the people work together, to centralize the powers for a better system or to improve the living conditions of the citizens. Thus, the advantages of a Fascism is just similar to other ideology where they have their own pros and cons, thus I do not see how Fascism has benefited Japan as other ideologies could have easily given Japan other benefits if Japan was to adopt it. Maybe fascism was indeed better than the democracy system, but there are some rights given in democracy which was not given in fascism, for example the rights of the people on how they wanted their government to be. It was more on whether Fascism had given more benefits or harm to Japan’s society and progress. Also mentioned earlier on in the beginning of the essay, I have stated that I agreed on the fact that Fascism did benefit Japan to a large extent. The people were controlled in every aspect of their lives and acted like slaves to the country. This led to the loss of incentive to innovate or to do one’s best. As the regimes themselves viewed human rights as of little value and hindrance to realizing the objectives of the ruling elite thus there is a disdain in human rights. Due to the fear of enemies and the need for security and through clever use of propaganda, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of â€Å"needs for the country†. Thus people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc†¦ Another cause of neglecting of domestic problems was due to the supremacy of the military. Thirdly, the government controlled the workers and limited their freedom. Although trade unions, various work groups were given but all the groups did was to brainwash the workers into obedient ‘slaves’ to country willing to work for the common good of the country. The problem of the poor working conditions of the people were not solved but instead, they were taught to put their rights aside and accept the conditions than to cause riots so that the country could advance. The workers had no choice but to continue working and to not care about their rights. People are supposed to have their basic rights while they service their country. The government freely limited people’s freedom and in a few examples later on, it shows how the government make the people look like ‘slaves’ to the country. Fourthly, the next example was the loss of woman rights and the limited freedom they had. The woman who worked for the country had to be stay in special flats so that they could be controlled and monitored. This is an obvious violation of privacy. The women had to be separated from their family just to earn them some money and get controlled by the government. Why would they be controlled? This shows that the government thought of them as people who can’t be trusted, and someone who would betray the company and make an uproar? Since men are not required to go through these conditions, it clearly meant that they treated women as a lower race. Thus fascism had limited the rights of women and this was unacceptable as there is inequality. Fifthly, education was infused with military training and brained washed the children with traditional ideas of self sacrifice and total obedience allowing the Japanese military to have a ready supply of patriotic soldiers willing to lay their lives down and sacrifice themselves for the good of Japan and to help build the country into an empire. This system is outrageous as children should not being going out into being soldiers and fight war. The brainwash have put the young children in unnecessary risk and the government uses them like pieces in a chess game and not giving any form of care to the people. Thus it was not beneficial as it is a negative impact on the country. Sixthly, with great power, one may just defy the government and the military did it. After the bombing of Zhang Zuo Lin, the army in Manchuria acted on its own to take control of Manchuria. This showed that the armed forces in Japan had enough influence to be able to carry out invasions without the permission from the central government. This was dangerous as it could lead to further conflicts with other countries with the tendency of triggering a war. However, increase in the representation at high decision policy making positions and encouragement to the women to take higher risks in the economic arena indicates the changing trends in perception of the gender stereotypes. Women are mythically considered to be qualitative as opposed to men who are perceived to be highly quantitative therefore making the girls themselves to believe that mathematics and sciences are for men only (Margaret, 2003). Some of the societies in the East, Africa and the Caribbean have the tendency to direct the girls to social art oriented careers while boys are offered more opportunities in the diverse scientific careers that are considered more prestigious. This stereotyping and mythical believe is not only wrong but unethical as it acts to block the overall potentials of the females to pursue different careers related to sciences. There is no empirical statistics that show women have less ability to perform well in the science oriented careers. Limiting them to less competitive careers has seen their reduced contribution to the society and acts to solidify more stereotype myths that portray them as domestic oriented as opposed to active participation in the economic development (Williams, 2006). To add to that, education preference has been more oriented to the boy child as opposed to the girl in the developing world. It is considered as less productive to educate a girl than to educate a boy since girls would sooner be married off therefore losing the prior investment on them. The current globalized societys success being based on education, the girl child is therefore less advantaged to access the major benefits of the high technological world. Marxism theories indicates that increase in living standards is dependent on the ability to provide skilled labor to the capitalistic world. He continues to infer that all factors of production should be dynamic in application for high competition and maximum returns to be realized. As a result, limiting female children from education barricades them from possible future development and innovations as their negotiating capacity is fully crippled (Theresa, 2005). However, this perception has been proved wrong as more women are increasingly struggling and achieving equal or higher scholarly achievements than their men counterparts in the scientific careers. Major educational researches and scholarly work have been done by women and received major recognitions. However, such achievement are not emphasized on since stereotypes tend to rely more on generalized aspects than the reality. Higher education and science subjects limitation due to the major stereotypes in the society, kills the overall desire of the female children to pursue different education careers as they would be perceived to be odd. In Trinidad and Tobago, despite the government great initiative to have more girls participate in science oriented subjects, over 80% of them prefer hospitality and secretarial studies (Margaret, 2003). As a result of stereotyping men as generally good in the society to pursue scientific subjects careers, excess assumptions are laid on their abilities with priorities and talents not being emphasized on. Therefore, there is general tendency of the men to pursue careers in sciences as opposed general arts. Engineering profession in US has only about 25% of the people working there being women and 75% being men (Williams, 2006). In the Medical schools in Australia, the ratio of men to women is 1:3 indicating the high level of gender stereotype in the country. Both genders should be given equal priorities to develop their careers as they are all gifted and talented differently. As a basic requirement in the society, scientific skills must be emphasized to both genders for faster transformation of the society in the 21st century and later years. Until recently, computer engineering was a specifically mens careers where women could not even try to figure out pursuing them. In the year 1996, the total number of women computer engineers in Canada was represented by only 9% (Williams, 2006). 3. Impacts of gender stereotyping in politics and governance. Until recently, Canadian women were regarded as housewives and only participated in minor poorly paying jobs like working in farms and in fabric industries. Though this fact was overlooked for a long time, the trend is fast changing to give them a more inclusive chance to contribute to the economic development of the country. According to Williams (2006), due to the high dominance of the men in different governments, legislations to discourage women participation only in minor home affairs have been developing very slowly and at times met with great resistance. As it was evident in Canada, women believed that they were supposed to be house wives and send their husbands to work and children to school. However, these trends have greatly changed and more women are participating in football, boxing and car rallying all over the world. Several states globally have tried to change the trend and encouraged more participation in sports by women. During the 2008 Olympic sports in China, sports participation by women had increased tremendously from the previous world cap. Economic development that simultaneously realigns with these segregated sports are therefore denied for women making them to be even more dependent on men and reducing their ability to inspire other women in the society (Malszecki Cavar, 2005). To add to that, talents are greatly lost from the various individuals that could have been developed to full appreciation through various sports. As a result of confining women to the beauty and light sports, international representation has been lost greatly for various countries. Gender stereotypes in modeling and relationship Over years, it has come to be stereotypically accepted that women as opposed to men should be thin in order to look more attractive. Physical appearance in women has been pasted as a major determinant factor in their overall success. Current media depiction of slim and less stout women to be more successful in life has made many young women to strive being like them in order to be equally successful. Nationalism and State Hood in Europe After Ww1 Essay

To what extent did WWI change (or not change) European ideas about statehood and nationalism? Sources suggest that Europe’s ideas towards statehood and nationalism changed throughout and after WW1, I personally agree with this statement. Nationalism is defined as loyalty or devotion to ones country followed by the belief that nations will benefit from acting independently rather than collectively, emphasizing national rather than international goals. There was a large impact on Europe post WW1 and this term â€Å"nationalism† had a lot to do with the situation. It was also often, the belief that an ethnic group has a right to statehood, or that citizenship in a state should be limited to one ethnic group, this belief was also greatly impacted by the enlightenment of WW1. After a Period that saw great rise to the idea of nationalism throughout Europe, the time that came after the war brought vast change and meaning to how nations were described. May 7th 1919, German foreign minister Ulrich von Brockdorff-Rantzua arrived at meeting know as the delegation of diplomats. It was held in one of the grand rooms within Versailles palace, which is located just outside of Paris. The aim of this meeting was to negotiate between all of the allied powers ( France, Japan, Italy, Britain and United States). Because the allied powers felt strongly that they had won , they now believed that Germany and Austria hungry were to blame to for the original outbreak of the war. Although the Germans believed that this armistice to stop the war was really only a truce†¦ there concerns were ignored. The explanation of what caused the war is truly more complex than just putting sole blame on Austria hungry and Germany. The foundations that eventually lead to the out break of WW1 which also became know as the Great War, had started 5 years in the past. National competition was fast becoming the key characteristic of the age , because of the development in powerful and industrialized armed states a there grew a strong sense of the need to defend, due to imperial interests. Previously in the 19th Century the states had cooperated together aiming to keep the peace, rulers of the time strongly disagreed with conflict. But as the time came to merge into the 20th century modern political movements were coming forward, many of which were based around a nationalist outlook. People began to move away from the old regimes. Many people were now eager for autonomy, throughout the southern and eastern sides of Europe there existed a mix of nationalities under the rule of imperial Prussian, Aus trian or Russian rule, these political ways then led to a push for national self-determination. The drive for revolution and change is shown in Lenin’s work particularly in quote 5) â€Å"The greater will be the number of people of the woking class and of the other classes of society who will be able to join the movement and perform active work in it.† Another major event that triggered Austria into declaring war was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand along with his wife. The assassination was carried out by a young terrorist, Gavrilo Princip. The austrian authorities were infuriated over the attack and demanded that Serbia accept Austrian interference in the murder investigation, as they blamed Serbia as the felt they had encouraged the black hand society. Due to the fact that the Serbs only accepted segments of the ultimatum they triggered Austria’s declaration of war. War was not the original intention for the other European Powers in 1914 but Fear can lead people to do a lot of things, there was also an idea that Armaments caused war but this was not the case, they did contribute to a sense of fast growing instability though and lessened the capacity of states so that they were able to restrain the military if/when crisis signaled. During 1914 Austria was prepared to go to war against Serbia, for the reason described above but before they were able to do this they needed the complete support of Germany, Their Ally and the cease of any possible threat from Russia. Austria achieved support from Berlin although Russia feared that Austria would use this crisis to take control of Slavic Balkans and therefore stall russian imperial ambitions, due to this Russia chose to back Serbia and began to mobilize, this then triggered a domino effect. In Berlin it was felt that Russia’s mobilization was encouraged by the British and French, the German military then prepared to attack France, whom Britain sided with. All the major powers of Europe were at war by the 4th of August 1914. Both sides suffered losses unimaginable before 1914 this was due to the introduction of new Weaponry such as machine guns. The cost of WW1 in terms of human losses were enormous more than 9 million soldiers were killed and millions of other s were permanently injured. The â€Å"war guilt clause† was signed by German Delegation under protest on June the 28 of 1919. The Germans believed that the conditions that were imposed upon them were harsh. The end of the war also transformed the political geography of Europe and the middle east. After the rise and fall of the Russian empire the German Austrian and ottoman turkish empires also ceased to exist. These were all replaced by new smaller states. The former turkish provinces in Iraq, Syria Lebanon and Palestine were handed over as mandates to Britain and France. This is further explained int he treaty of Versailles article 22 â€Å" certain communities formally belonging to the turkish empire have reached a stage of development where their existence as independent nations can be provisionally recognized subject to the rendering of administrative advice and assistance by a mandatory ie: western power† The Former Imperial Territories in Europe which were held by Russia, Austria and Germany all became independent national states. This further pushed the idea that people of Europe should be allowed national â€Å"self determination†. This is also stated in Article 22 of the covenant of the league of nations â€Å" the best method of giving practical effect to this principle is that the tutelage of such peoples should be entrusted to advanced nations who by reason of their resource s their experience or their geographical position can best undertake this responsibility†. Different aspects of the war strengthened nationalism, such as some of the ideas that have been explored above whereas others weakened nationalism. Examples of ideas that weakened nationalism can been seen throughout the novel all quiet on the western front, in the quote â€Å" on the body of the little recruit with the wound that is so much too big for his hip; it falls on kemmerichs grave, it falls in our hearts† the somber tone used in this quotes reflects the emotion and pointlessness felt towards fighting in WW1, for the soldiers it was a time of great despair, all quiet on the western front is a honest and open writing about the emotion and mentality of the soldiers during WW1. Another example of a piece that gives a somewhat derogatory effect towards nationalism is Dulce et decorum Est. â€Å"the old lie, Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori† this further expresses the terrors of war, and how through propaganda nationalism was reinforced as a glorious battle rather than a treacherous war. Overall It can be decided that European ideas about statehood and nationalism were changed after WW1, on a large and extensive scale. By looking at the numerous example and sources shown above we can conclude that events throughout WW1 lead to changes both in the economy and social structure of Europe.

The Bohr’s Atomic Model | Argumentative Essay| shhss| In 1913, a Danish physicist named Niels Bohr  put Rutherford's findings together with the observed spectra to come up with a new model of the atom in a real leap of intuition. I believe that the Bohr’s model of atom explains well about the atomic theory, because in his experiments it is shown and explained the structure of an atom. His famous suggestion is about that the electrons orbit around the nucleus of an atom. Bohr experimented with atomic spectrum that proved his suggestion.The Bohr’s experiments with atomic spectra explained how each element had a unique spectrum and the  wavelength  of each line within a spectrum had a specific energy. When atoms in the gas tubes absorbed the energy from the electric current, the electrons became excited and jumped from low energy levels (close to the nucleus) to high energy levels (farther out from the nucleus). The excited electrons would fall back to their o riginal levels and emit energy as light. Because there were specific differences between the energy levels, only specific wavelengths of light were seen in the spectrum.Bohr’s Periodic behavior of elements described how did elements with similar properties had similar atomic spectra. Bohr also explained that Each electron orbit of the same size or energy (shell) could only hold so many electrons. For example, the first shell could hold two electrons, the second could hold eight electrons, the third could hold 18 electrons, the fourth 32 and so on until reaching the seventh. When one shell was filled, electrons were found at higher levels. Chemical properties were based on the number of electrons in the outermost shell.Elements with full outer shells do not react. Other elements take or give up electrons to get a full outer shell. As it turns out, Bohr's model is also useful for explaining the behavior of  lasers, although these devices were not invented until the middle of the 20th century. Bohr's model was the model that made a great leap in sciences until new discoveries were made. This model was proposed in 1913 by Niels Bohr and was really an expansion on the Rutherford model of 1911. The Rutherford model had several flaws that the Bohr model overcame.

The Nighttime Sky Holds Many Stars The nighttime sky looks like it has millions of stars visible to observers. Thats because we live in a galaxy that has hundreds of millions of them. However, we cant really see all of them with the naked eye from our backyards. It turns out that the skies of Earth have, at most, around ten thousand stars that can be spotted with the naked eye. However, not everyone can see all the stars; they see only whats overhead in their own region. Light pollution and atmospheric hazes reduce the number of stars that can be seen even more. On average, however, the most anyone can really see (with very good eyesight and from a very dark viewing area) is around three thousand stars. People living in very big cities still see a few stars, while those in country areas away from lights can see more.   The best places to see stars are dark-sky sites, such as Canyonlands National Park or from onboard a ship in the middle of the ocean, or high in the mountains. Most people do not have access to such areas, but they can get away from most city lights by going out into the countryside. Or, if viewing from in the city  is someones only choice, they can pick an observing spot that is shaded from nearby lights. That increases the chances of seeing a few more stars.   If our planet was in a region of the galaxy with a lot more stars, chances are stargazers really WOULD see tens of thousands of stars at night. Our section of the Milky Way is, however, less well-populated than the core for example. If our planet could be in the center of the galaxy, or perhaps in a globular cluster, the sky would shimmer with starlight. In fact, in a globular cluster, we might never have dark skies! In the center of the galaxy, we might be stuck in a cloud of gas and dust, or perhaps be subjected to forces from the black hole at its heart. So, in a way, while our location in the outskirts of the Milky Way reveals fewer stars to stargazers, its a safer place to have a planet with dark skies.   Stargazing Among the Visible Stars So, what can be learned from the stars that observers CAN see? For one thing, people often notice that some stars appear white, while others are bluish, or orangey or reddish.   Most, however, appear to be a dull white.  Where does the color come from? The stars surface temperature gives a clue- the hotter they are, the more blue and white they are. The redder they are, the cooler they are. So, a blue-white star is hotter than a yellow or orange star, for example. Red stars are usually fairly cool (as stars go). Its important to remember, however, that a stars color isnt vivid, its more likely very pale or pearlescent. Also, the materials that make up a star (that is, its composition) can make it look red or blue or white or orange. Stars are primarily hydrogen, but they can have other elements in their atmospheres and interiors. For example, some stars that have a lot of the element carbon in their atmospheres look redder than other stars.   Figuring out Brightness of Stars Among those three thousand stars, observers can also notice differences in their brightnesses. A stars brightness is often referred to as its magnitude and thats simply a way to put numbers to the different brightnesses we see among all the stars. What affects that brightness? A couple of factors come into play. A star can look bright or dim depending on far away it is. But, it can also look bright because its very hot. Distance AND temperature play a role in magnitude.   A very hot, bright star that lies very far away from us appears dim to us. If it was closer,   it would be brighter. A cooler, intrinsically dim star might look very bright to us if it was very close by. Most stargazers are interested in something called visual (or apparent) magnitude, which is the brightness it will appear to the eye. Sirius, for example, is -1.46, which means that its quite bright. It is, in fact, the brightest star in our night sky. The Sun is magnitude -26.74 and is THE brightest star in our daytime sky. The dimmest magnitude anyone can detect with the naked eye is around magnitude 6.   The intrinsic magnitude of a star is how bright it is due to its own temperature, regardless of distance. Astronomy researchers are much more interested in this number since it gives some clue about conditions inside the star. But, for backyard stargazers, that figure is less important than visual magnitude.   While our viewing is limited to a few thousand stars (with the naked eye), of course, observers can seek out more distant stars using binoculars and telescopes.
